Great kitchen uses for ice-cube trays

Posted on | September 20, 2008 |

Ice-cube trays can be very useful in the kitchen as you can freeze portions of ingredients that wouldn’t keep otherwise. The small portion of a ice-cube means that you can add them from frozen to lots of dishes, quickly and easily. Here are my top uses for ice-cube trays in the freezer.

  • Wine - next time you have a little left over wine, put it in ice-cube trays and place in the freezer. Next time you need a little red or white wine for a sauce, gravy, or dish, then you can just pop an ice-cube in.
  • Onion - using a food processor, blitz up a whole onion with a little olive oil and water.  Spoon the onion mush into ice-cube trays.  This comes in great for adding to soups, stews, and casseroles.
  • Stock- if you have any left over stock, but it in ice-cube trays and drop into sauces, or dishes that need to have a bit more liquid content.
