Have you had luck growing tomatoes this year?

My mother is a grow-your-own-veg enthusiast and has recently had a spot of luck this year in growing a massive harvest of nice tomatoes. Normally this is not such a big story, but last year all her tomatoes turned black with ‘the blight’.
Has anyone else had luck with growing tomatoes this year?
I’m going to try it myself next year, but I need to get a big garden first!
